Instagram has introduced changes to Direct Message privacy settings with the goal of protecting users.

As of the latest version update, screenshots can no longer be taken within Instagram Direct Message threads on both mobile and desktop platforms. This aims to curb harmful behaviors like sextortion and image-based abuse, where perpetrators screenshot private conversations or images without consent to extort or blackmail the other person. While screenshots were never allowed for Instagram Stories, this update extends that policy to all private messaging.
