Instagram is introducing a new nudity protection feature in direct messages (DMs) to address the potential misuse of private messaging for sharing or requesting intimate images.

This upcoming feature will automatically blur images detected as containing nudity, aiming to prompt users to reconsider before sending such content.

Specifically focused on protecting individuals from unwanted exposure to nudity and safeguarding them from scammers seeking to exploit the exchange of intimate images, the feature will be enabled by default for users under 18 globally.

Additionally, adults will receive a notification encouraging them to activate the feature. When activated, the sender of an image containing nudity will be prompted to exercise caution and will be informed of the ability to unsend such photos if they change their mind.

This initiative reflects Instagram's commitment to promoting a safer and more secure environment for its users.
