Instagram is testing an enhanced location-sharing feature called "Friend Map" with select users.
The optional map interface allows users to visualize locations they've checked into or tagged on Instagram.
When enabled, the Friend Map will display markers pinpointing past locations and allow friends who also opt-in to browse a timeline of a user's whereabouts.
Privacy and control are prioritized, with users choosing who can see their map and remove access at any time.
It aims to foster connection by letting people digitally revisit meaningful locations together.
Feedback during the limited test will help Instagram refine the experience before a wider rollout.
